Petzey Privacy Policy

At Petzey, we want to facilitate pet wellness through connecting pet parents and veterinary professionals. In this Privacy Policy, we tell you what information we receive from Users (as defined below), and how we use it to connect Pet Parents and Veterinary Professionals and continue to improve our services. Additionally, we explain how you can share with other Pet Parents and Veterinary Professionals in the Petzey community as part of our mission to facilitate pet wellness.

 

Scope of this Privacy Policy

Petzey (“Petzey,” “we,” “our,” and/or “us”) values the privacy of individuals who use our application, websites, and related services (collectively, the “Petzey Platform”). This privacy policy (the “Privacy Policy”) explains how we collect, use, and share information from Petzey users (“Users”), comprised of both Petzey pet parents (“Pet Parents”) and Petzey veterinary professionals (including VP applicants) (“Veterinary Professionals,” or “VPs”). Beyond the Privacy Policy, your use of Petzey is also subject to our Terms of Service.  Capitalized terms herein have the meaning set forth in this Privacy Policy.  Any undefined capitalized terms have the meaning set forth in our Terms of Service.

 

Information We Collect

  1. Information You Provide to Us

 

Pet Parents

 

Registration Information/Pet Owner Profile. When you sign up for a Petzey account, you give us your email address, as well as your pet’s name and other information including, but not limited to, species, breed, gender, age, and whether spayed or neutered.  In addition, you can provide other information about you and your pet including your pet’s physical and mental health and medical records, text, pictures, videos, chat logs, and any other information about you and your pet you wish to share.  We will create a profile for you and your pet in which this information will reside.   If you decide to sign up for Petzey using your Facebook account, we will also get basic information from your Facebook profile like your name, email, and avatar.

 

Payment Method. When you add a credit card or payment method to your Petzey account, a third party that handles payments for us will receive your card information. Currently, Petzey uses Stripe to handle payments (https://stripe.com/privacy). To keep your financial data secure, we do not store full credit card information on our servers.

 

Communications. If you contact us directly, we may receive additional information about you. For example, when you contact our Customer Support Team, we will receive your name, email address, phone number, the contents of a message or attachments that you may send to us, and other information you choose to provide.

 

Veterinary Professionals

 

Veterinary Professional Information. If you decide to join our Petzey VP community, you will provide us with your full name, address, e-mail address, phone number, veterinary/CVT license information including issuing state(s) and jurisdictions in which you are licensed to practice, veterinary clinic affiliations. This information will be included in your Petzey Profile together with other information as Petzey shall determine in its sole discretion.  We share this information with our partners, including but not limited to background check providers and professional veterinary licensing boards, who help us validate your credentials and gather other information to help protect the Petzey community.   VPs are required to keep their profile up to date. Petzey may approve or reject any applicant it its sole discretion.

 

Payment Information. To make sure VPs are paid and appropriate governmental filings are made, we (or our third party partner) will keep information about VPs’ bank routing numbers, tax information, including taxpayer identification numbers, and any other payment information provided by VPs.

 

  1. Information We Collect When You Use the Petzey Platform

 

Location Information. When you open Petzey on your mobile device, we receive your location. Your location information is necessary for app activities such as matching Pet Parents with VPs based on  geographic proximity, and to help assist in identifying nearby veterinary clinics if that information is desired during a consultation.  If you grant us permission through your device settings or Petzey app, we may collect your location while the app is off to identify promotions or service updates in your area.

 

Device Information. Petzey receives information from Users’ devices, including IP address, web browser type, mobile operating system version, phone carrier and manufacturer, application installations, device identifiers, mobile advertising identifiers, push notification tokens, and, if you register with your Facebook or Google account, your Facebook or Google identifier.

 

Usage Information. To help us understand how you use the Petzey Platform and to help us improve it, we automatically receive information about your interactions with the Petzey Platform, like the pages or other content you view, your actions within the Petzey app, and the dates and times of your visits.  In addition, if you access a third party site via the Petzey app (for example a site that provides pet supplies or other pet goods or services) then we may receive similar information with respect to your interaction with that site.

 

Consultation Content Information. Each time a User engages with the Petzey Platform to establish a consultation, Petzey will collect certain information shared between the Pet Parent and VP. That information may include the date, time and duration of the consultation, data shared during the consultation and notes of the consultation that are uploaded to the Petzey Platform by the VP.  In addition, Petzey may (but is not required to) monitor or record the audio content of the consultation for quality assurance purposes.  You will be given notice that your call may be recorded, and by proceeding you agree to allow Petzey to monitor and/or record your call.

 

User Feedback. At Petzey, we want to make sure Users are having a valuable and positive experience. Pet Parents may rate and review the VP at the end of every consultation. We receive information about ratings and reviews and, as we explain below, use that information.

 

Address Book Contacts. If you permit Petzey to access the address book on your device through the permission system used by your mobile platform, we may access and store names and contact information from your address book to facilitate invitations and social interactions that you initiate through our Platform and for other purposes described in this privacy policy or at the time of consent or collection.

 

Information from Cookies and Similar Technologies. We collect information through the use of “cookies,” tracking pixels, and similar technologies to understand how you navigate through the Petzey Platform and interact with Petzey advertisements, to learn what content is popular, and to save your preferences. Cookies are small text files that web servers place on your device; they are designed to store basic information and to help websites and apps recognize your browser. We may use both session cookies and persistent cookies. A session cookie disappears after you close your browser. A persistent cookie remains after you close your browser and may be accessed every time you use the Petzey Platform. You should consult your web browser(s) to modify your cookie settings. Please note that if you delete or choose not to accept cookies from us, you may be missing out on certain features of the Petzey Platform.

 

  1. Information We Collect from Third Parties

 

Third Party Services. If you choose to register for Petzey or otherwise link your Petzey account with a third party’s service (such as Facebook), we may receive the same type of information we collect from you (described above) directly from those services.

 

Third Party Partners. We may receive additional information about you, such as demographic data, payment information, or fraud detection information, from third party partners and combine it with other information that we have about you.

 

Corporate Programs. If your company, university, or organization participates in one of our corporate programs such as making Petzey available as part of a corporate benefit or similar program, we may receive information about you, such as your email address, from your participating organization.

 

Background Information on VPs. Petzey works with third party partners to perform professional background checks on VPs and VP applicants, and we receive information from them such as information maintained by state veterinary licensing boards, insurance companies and other information to assist in verifying the information VPs provide to Petzey.  

 

How We Use the Information We Collect

We use the information we collect from all Users to:

 

Connect Pet Parents with VPs;

Provide, improve, expand, and promote the Petzey Platform;

Analyze how the Petzey community uses the Petzey Platform;

Communicate with you, either directly or through one of our partners, including for marketing and promotional purposes;

Personalize the Petzey experience for you and your friends and contacts;

Send you text messages and push notifications;

Facilitate transactions and payments;

Provide you with customer support;

Find and prevent fraud; and

Respond to questions or issues that may arise, including feedback on User experiences, and requests from government authorities.

Share stories and photos that you post for general marketing purposes.

Additionally, we use the information we collect from VPs for the following purposes related to a VPs providing consultation services on the Petzey Platform:

 

Sending emails and text messages to VPs who have started the application process regarding the status of their application;

Determining a VP’s eligibility to offer consultation services on the Petzey Platform

Notifying VPs about consultation demand, pricing and service updates

How We Share the Information We Collect

  1. Sharing Between Users

 

Sharing between Pet Parents and VPs. Pet Parents and VPs that have been matched for a consultation are able to see information about each other, such as names, photo, and any information they have added to their Profiles including (i) as it relates to Pet Parents, information on their Pet Profiles and (ii) as it relates to VPs, veterinary/CVT license information, veterinary clinic affiliations and insurance information.  In addition, the VP will be able to see information of a Pet Parent’s prior consultations via the Petzey Platform with respect to the pet. Pet Parents’ ratings of VPs are shared with VPs periodically. We de-identify the ratings and feedback and attempt to ensure anonymity, but Pet Parents understand and acknowledge that a VP may be able to identify the Pet Parent that provided the rating or feedback.

 

  1. Sharing Between Petzey and Third Parties

 

API and Integration Partners. If you connect to the Petzey Platform through an integration with a third party service, we may share information about your use of the Petzey Platform with that third party. We may share your information with our third party partners in order to receive additional information about you. We may also share your information with third party partners to create offers that may be of interest to you.

 

Third Party Services. The Petzey Platform may allow you to connect with other websites, products, or services over which we have no control (for example, we may give you the ability to order pet supplies from a link within the Petzey app, or pick up pet supplies using a ride share service). If you use these services, we will provide the third party with information about you to allow them to provide the service to you. In doing so, your information will be subject to the privacy policies and practices of these third parties, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies before deciding whether to use their services.

 

Service Providers. We work with third party service providers to perform services on our behalf, and we may share your information with such service providers to help us provide the Petzey Platform, including all of the items described above.

 

Other Sharing. We may share your information with third parties in the following cases:

 

While negotiating or in relation to a change of corporate control such as a restructuring, merger or sale of our assets;

If a government authority requests information and we think disclosure is required or appropriate in order to comply with laws, regulations, or a legal process;

With law enforcement officials, government authorities, or third parties if we think doing so is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of the Petzey community, Petzey, or the public;

To comply with a legal requirement or process, including but not limited to, civil and criminal subpoenas, court orders or other compulsory disclosures.

If you signed up for a promotion with another User’s referral or promotion code, with your referrer to let them know about your redemption of or qualification for the promotion;

With our pet insurance partners to help determine and provide relevant coverage;

To provide information about the use of the Petzey Platform to potential business partners in aggregated or de-identified form that cannot reasonably be used to identify you; and

Whenever you consent to sharing, such as consent for Petzey to share stories and photos that you post for general marketing purposes.

Your Choices

Promotional Communications. You can always unsubscribe from our commercial or promotional emails, text messages and push notifications but we will still send you transactional and relational emails about your account use of the Petzey Platform.  Note that by opting out of push notifications, your quality of service may be impacted (such as receiving information that a VP is available or relating to a consultation that has recently concluded).

 

Profile Information Pet Parents. While your name, Pet name, species, breed, gender, whether spayed or neutered, age, and your geographic location will always be shared with VP, you can delete any additional information that you added to your Profile at any time.

 

Profile Information VPs. You name, photo, location, professional status (veterinarian or certified veterinary technician) state licensing information, clinic affiliation and specialization/special interests ie. orthopedics, internal medicine, surgery, exotics (reptiles, birds, pocket pets), companion pets (Dogs, Cats), will always be shared with Pet Parents. 

 

Location Information. While you can prevent your device from sharing location information at any time through your mobile device’s operating system settings, Pet Parents geographic location is required to use the Petzey Platform.

 

Editing and Accessing Your Information. You can review and edit certain account information from the profile and settings section of the app. If you would like to terminate your Petzey account, please contact the Petzey Support Team with your request. If you choose to terminate your account, we will deactivate it for you but may retain information from your account for a certain period of time and disclose it in a manner consistent with our practices under this Privacy Policy for accounts that are not closed. We also may retain information from your account to collect any fees owed, resolve disputes, troubleshoot problems, analyze usage of the Petzey Platform, assist with any investigations, prevent fraud, enforce our Terms of Service, or take other actions as required or permitted by law.

 

Other

Data Security. We are committed to protecting the data of the Petzey community. Even though we take reasonable precautions to protect your data, no security measures can be 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of your data.

 

Children’s Privacy. Petzey is not intended for or directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you are under 18, please do not use or provide any information to or through the Petzey Platform. If we find out that a child under 18 has given us personal information, we will take steps to delete that information. If you believe that a child under the age of 18 has given us personal information, please contact the Petzey Support Team.

 

Changes to Our Privacy Policy. We may make changes to this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make any material changes, we will provide notice of those changes through the Petzey Platform, by email, or other communication. We encourage you to read this Privacy Policy periodically to stay up-to-date about our privacy practices. As long as you use the Petzey Platform, you are agreeing to this Privacy Policy and any updates we make to it.
